Prez Tim Jones and Larry Loenser welcome Barb Sanders
June 13, 2018 - We are pleased to announce that today we initiated Barb Sanders into our Kiwanis Rough Risers club. Prez Tim Jones performed the solemn and formal ceremony (right!) to welcome Barb into our club as Larry Loenser (her sponsor) looked on.

Barb has already been an active participant in our meetings and events. She is active in the community with her work with the Hope4Healing Quakerdale Network. We look forward to working with her in the future.

The Bohlman and Ott Team Share Channel 15

June 13, 2018 - Our very own Public Education Government (PEG) Channel 15 on the Cedar Falls Cablevision offers 4 channels to subscribers;  from the CF City Government Council Meetings, County Board of Supervisors sessions, general interest programming,  to our beloved UNI Panthers Athletic Sports programming.

Denny Bohlman and Jeremy Ott gave an insider’s view to the Cedar Falls Kiwanis Rough Risers on how all these channels are created, produced, edited and then sent to the airwaves to a satellite orbiting space and then bounced back to eagerly awaited broadcast stations all over the world.  Denny and Jeremy said that up until a few weeks ago; most of this was accomplished from a very small truck that was parked on the premises with a couple of highly skilled people doing the tasks.

With the Cablevision Channel being so popular, they purchased a drone flyer recently, to capture outside events as they are unfolding.  The Public Access Channel just got a huge windfall lately, when the local On-Air NBC Channel 7 remodeled their live TV broadcast studio and donated the entire set to Channel 15 to provide CF subscribers unequaled broadcasting in the future.

Cedar Falls Cablevision has always been a strong supporter of our Kiwanis Rough Risers club.  You can even see our Serving the Valley interview on channel 15.

Slykhuis Memorial Golf Outing was a BIG HIT!

The Second Slykhuis Memorial Golf Outing was a HUGE SUCCESS!!!!

Held at the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course, We had 17 foursomes (68 players) who wandered the links in search of their "best shot."

We had 18 Kiwanis members pop kettle corn, serve food, sell raffle tickets, manage serve to make this the huge success that it was.

The proceeds from this golf outing and last year's event funded the registration for the 130 kids (ages 7 - 18) who played in the youth event on Friday (the night before.

We earned over $6,600 from this event.  This generous outcome included income from sponsors, registrations, in-course games, auctions, and raffles.

A big thanks to all for an excellent job.  Extra thanks to Tim, Gene, Bob Nelson and Dean for heading this up and doing a lot of behind the scenes work.

While the Slykhuis Memorial Golf Outings have been successful over the past 2 years, we have decided that this will be the last year of the event.  We will use the funds we have raised through these two golf outings support youth in golf throughout the Cedar Valley and then find other resources and events to continue with this sponsorship.
