Wednesday, May 23 - One of the basic freedoms and civil rights our great country offers its citizens; is the ability to choose our elected leaders and officials in a secret ballot at public polling places throughout the county.
Karen Showalter, the Election Manager of the Blackhawk County Board of Elections, informed the Cedar Falls Kiwanis Rough Risers about some big changes that went into law about required Identification when eligible voters exercise their constitutional right to vote for their candidates of choice. One drastic change of note in the new legislation will be the inability of voting a straight party line ticket with a single checkmark. You must pick the person, rather than the party. Karen's presentation was quite informative on these new laws that will affect us for many years to come. Presentations like this make us a more informed electorate.
